The back of the bookcase area is alder planks the way it would have been built the turn of the century- This display cabinet is made from a 9 ply furniture grade plywood. The end grain is quite beautiful. The stainless steel is a laminate or veneer applied to the plywood. The stainless steel works well with the glass shelving and glass table.
